The Final Champ is....

Congrats to Sibyl, who won the Novice Tournament! I'm not sure if it's the fresh country air in Virginia or if she's been practicing all year long, but Sibyl really came into her own this year. Great job!

Thanks to everyone who bowled. I hope that you had as much fun as I did. Keep practicing - the league will be back next winter!

And Then There Was One...

In tournament action this week, Roger defeated Amber by 27 pins to win the Advanced Division Tournament. Way to go, Roger! You peaked at just the right time!

In the Novice Division, Roger's wife Cheryl is also still alive, posting a win over Bo in her semi-final match. On the other side of the bracket, Sibyl knocked Hollie out of the tournament with an impressive 50 pin margin of victory.

So... that means that our last final will take place this week. For the Novice Division, it's Cheryl vs. Sibyl.

Good luck! And thanks to all who have participated!

The Playoffs Continue

Hey, sports fans! While that "other" tournament is going on, things have been heating up here in the Spare Mii League!

In the Kids Division, Sarah triumphed over her big brother Tom by only 12 pins to win the tournament. What an excellent season for all of our competitors in the Kids Division. Way to go, Sarah!

In the Pro Division, Adrienne decided not to take any chances, so she bowled a perfect 300 to post the victory over Joe. Very impressive, Adrienne! The Pro Division was definitely close this year!

We still have two tournaments going on. In the Novice Division, Sibyl moves past Bill with a whopping 247! Hollie defeated Butch, Cheryl ousted Alex from the tournament, and Bo moves on with a victory over Q. Excellent season to all of our Novice Division bowlers! This week will feature Hollie vs. Sibyl, and Cheryl vs. Bo to see who moves on to the finals.

In the Advanced Division, Roger (who has come on strong for the tournament) defeated Carter, while Amber took out Charlotte by an 11 point margin. Excellent job, bowlers! This week's finals will pit Roger and Amber against each other to see who brings home the championship!

Thanks to all who have participated!

First Week of Playoffs

Not unlike the NCAA tournament, the first round of our tournament featured a few upsets. It also, sadly, sent half of our players home.

In the Pro Division, Adrienne continued bowling like a champ and defeated Andrew. In a husband-wife battle of the ages, Joe knocked out the heavily favored Kate. (Knocked her out of the tournament, that is. No spouses were battered in the playing of this tournament. That I'm aware of.) Thanks for participating, Andrew and Kate! This week's finals feature Adrienne vs. Joe to see who brings home the trophy!

In the Advanced Division, Carter handily defeated Jim, showing why he was the regular season champion. Roger has come on strong at the end of the season, and ousted Jessica with a personal best 223. In a mother-daughter matchup, Amber sent her own mother packing. How is that for gratitude? And in a squeaker, Charlotte edged out TJ by only 6 pins. It's been fun having you bowl with us, Jim, Jessica, Sherri and TJ. Hope to see you next season! This week's games are Carter vs. Roger and Amber vs. Charlotte in the semi finals.

In the Novice Division, Kelli was forced to forfeit, giving Alex a first round victory. Bo buckled down to defeat Michelle, while Butch beat Josh by only 2 pins! Bill bowled an impressive 179 to send April home for the season. Cheryl, Hollie, Q and Sibyl all advanced on byes this week. Excellent season, Kelli, Michelle, Josh and April. Hope you had fun! This week's quarter finals will showcase Cheryl vs. Alex, Hollie vs. Butch, Q vs. Bo, and Sibyl vs. Bill.

For the Kids Division, Sarah continued her strong performance and defeated Wyatt, while Tom took out the impressive Max. Great season, Wyatt and Max! We've loved having you participate! This week's final showdown pits brother against sister with Sarah and Tom duking it out to see who will be the champion!

I hope that you are all enjoying the tournament! Good luck if you're bowling this week!

The End of the Season

Well, our regular season has ended and the tournament is under way! First, let me acknowledge our Week 6 leaders:

For the Kids Division, Sarah bowled a 210. For the Novice Division, Hollie bowled an impressive 207! In the Advanced Division, Roger led the week with 211. (His personal best!) And for the Pro Division, Adrienne set the pace with a 290. Excellent job by all!

Sherri and Amber were the only ones to participate in Spring Break Week - and they did it with lots of style! Ladies, I will be sending out a little prize to you at the end of the tournament. Thank you for participating with such enthusiasm! (For those keeping score, that is TWO prizes for Sherri, as she and Butch also won Sweethearts Week.)

Amber is ready for the warm weather!

Sherri knows how to relax!

Here are our regular season champs:

Kids Division - SARAH
Novice Division - CHERYL
Advanced Division - CARTER
Pro Division - ADRIENNE

Way to go, guys! Please take a minute to leave a comment and congratulate our champions!

The tournament scores have been coming in, and it looks like people have their game faces on. Let's hope that the intensity pays off and we have some fierce matchups to look forward to. Good luck to all and happy bowling!

Week 5 - It's Crunch Time

With Week 5 finished and recorded, we only have one week left in regulation play. Who will win the regular season for their division? Who will win the tournament? Only time will tell!

The Pro Division is quite the competition this year! This week saw TWO perfect games. Well, technically, three. Kate bowled a perfect game. Yay, Kate! Adrienne also bowled a perfect game. Then, because she didn't want Carter to bowl alone, she bowled again and got another perfect game. Very impressive! (Unfortunately, only one counts) The steroid test kits are on their way, ladies!

Here is Kate's perfect game:

And here is Adrienne's:

The photo above also shows our leader for the Advanced Division this week - CARTER! Carter led the pack with a 202. A very respectable showing!

For the Novice Division, Cheryl once again took the lead with a 237. WOW! She will definitely be moving up a level if she bowls with us next year. However, the photo I am going to show is Michelle, who bowled a personal best of 205. She has slowly been improving. Watch out come tourney time!

Also in the Novice Division, Sibyl bowled a person best 227. WOW!

In the Kids Division, Tom bowled over 200 for the second week in a row with a 202. Way to go, Tom! This week I am going to show Max's picture because he had a great week with a 184. Great job!

Excellent week, fellow bowlers! Good luck in your last week of regulation bowling. Knock 'em dead! (Or at least knock 'em down. The pins, that is!)

Wiik Four - Lots of People are Sick and/or Lazy!

Greetings! We had quite a few bowlers who missed out this week. It definitely happens every season. Let's hope that everyone is feeling well and READY TO BOWL! (A couple of our bowlers are out due to being grounded from the Wii. I'm not going to say whether they are adults or children, but let's hope they figure out how to get along with others!) Only two weeks of regulation bowling are left and then the playoffs start. The excitement is almost overwhelming! Let's see what happened this week...

In the Kids Division, Sarah bowled a whopping 235! Very impressive! However, I am going to post a picture of Tom's high score, as he set a personal record. It's always fun to break 200. Excellent job, Tom!

In the Pro Division, Joe once again took the lead with a 269. He seems to have really hit his stride and is coming on strong. It's a tight race for the lead in this division!

This week the Advanced Division was led by Jessica, who rocked a 233. This was a personal best record for her! She just got back from a nice vacation to Orlando, so I guess that relaxation helps you to be a better bowler! Great job, Jessica!

Our Novice Division was led by Cheryl, with a 214. Cheryl has been very consistent this season, and is definitely the bowler to beat in the Novice Division. Keep up the good work, Cheryl!

It was Sweethearts Week here at the Spare Mii League, and as league commissioner, I have chosen the following photo as my favorite:

Sherri and Butch have been sweethearts for 37.5 years! That deserves some celebrating! This is their second season bowling with us, and we are so happy to have them. They definitely add some fun to the league! Congratulations, Sherri and Butch! A sweet prize is on its way to you soon!

I hope that everyone is having a great week. Get those Week 5 scores to me soon!

Profiles in Bowling - Kelli!

Hi, all! Meet Kelli. (She's the shorter, non-cowboy-hat-wearing one on the left)

Kelli is a first year participant in the Spare Mii Wii Bowling League. She hails from somewhere in Illinois (I can't remember exactly where - that's not the kind of hard-hitting journalism you get around here), and is a wonderful person. She also might be a teensy bit obsessed with Trace Adkins. I asked her a few questions so that you could get to know her.

1) What brings you to our league? a) I'm it to win it, b) Just to have fun, c) For the exercise
B & C - I decided to accept your invitation to join the league for fun, and a little bit for the exercise.

2) If you had a celebrity bowling team, which 3 celebrities would you want to join you?
If I had a celebrity bowling team - well, of course I would want Trace Adkins on it. My other two choices might be Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton. Or maybe Martina McBride and Nathan Fillion. Or Julia Roberts and Sandra Bullock...

3) What would you name this celebrity bowling team?
What would I name the team? Um... "Celebrities and their Stalker" or "Stalking Pays" or "Kelli's Dream Team" or "Never in a Million Years"

4) Do you bowl right or left handed?
Right-handed. Although now I'm wondering if I might bowl better left-handed...

5) What is your favorite drink of choice while bowling?
Um, well, at bowling at home on the Wii, water. Out in the world bowling, usually Coca-Cola. I'm already a bowler of questionable skills. I'm afraid if I had any alcohol, I'd end up being a danger to others.

Excellent answers! Thank you for participating, Kelli, and for letting us all get to know you a bit. If YOU would like to be a featured bowler, please email me. Thanks!

Week Three - Halfway Done!

Well, folks, Week Three is in the books. With that, we have reached the halfway point of the regular season! We had some people out sick/busy this week. Don't worry - you have three more weeks to improve your average and secure your place in the playoffs, so bowl hard!

This week was Hat Week. We received lots of fun photos, which can be viewed here:

Thanks to all who participated! As League Commissioner, I have chosen the following photo as my favorite:

Watch your email for your not-so valuable prize, Joe!

If you didn't win, do not be dismayed! You will have more chances to win a not-so valuable prize! Read your weekly emails carefully for upcoming theme weeks.

Joe also dominated the Pro Division this week, bowling a whopping 265! Way to go, Joe!

In the Advanced Division, Charlotte tore up the lanes with a 234. Impressive! (If I do say so myself. And I do!)

The Novice Division is heating up! Bill bowled a fantastic 221 this week, but was edged out by Hollie, who bowled a personal best of 238. I think some of you will be moving up a division next year. Great job!

In the Kids Division, Sarah led the pack with a great score of 189! I think it's fun that each week, the Kids Division has had a different leader. That means that it should be Max or Kerrin's turn next week! You are all doing a wonderful job!

Thanks for participating, everyone! Have a great week and happy bowling!

Week Two - Can you Feel the Pressure??

Well, we've already lost a few bowlers. I guess they couldn't take the pressure of this high-intensity league. Oh, well - we shall soldier on without them.

This was a great bowling week - especially if you are a man. Without exception, each man bowling in our league improved his score this week. Were you all taking it easy the first week to size up the competition? Or are you all just so competitive that you worked really hard this week? In any event... CONGRATS!

I must start with the Kids Division this week, as young Wyatt has posted a whopping 195! He improved his score by a whopping 76 pins. Don't worry - his dad assures me that they are having him tested for steroids. Way to go, Wyatt!

In our Novice Division, Cheryl takes top honors this week, coming in with a 211. Great job, Cheryl! You are a force to be reckoned with! I think the cool glasses might give you an unfair advantage.

For the Advanced Division, Carter really tore it up! He bowled 195, then 200, then a 235! As you can see, he was as astounded as we are. Excellent job, Carter!

And last, but certainly not least - we have our Pro Division. Once again, Kate edged out Adrienne by one pin. These two are fierce competitors! Joe posted a 236, which proves that he's not out of this. The league is heating up, baby!

I hope that everyone had fun bowling this week. I'm looking forward to pictures from next week - Hat Week! If you are interested in being a featured bowler on the blog, please let me know. Happy bowling, friends!

Season Three - It's On Like Donkey Kong!

Hello, virtual sports fans! (And by that, I mean fans of virtual sports, not that you are virtual... although I guess you kind of are since you are reading this online. Okay, then. My head just exploded)

ANYHOO.... Season 3 is off to a great start! Sorry the update was delayed. There were some problems with emails getting stuck in spam folders and... the computer ate my homework. That's what I'm going with.

This year we have 35 people bowling. WOW! As you may have read, we are now divided into categories based on our average score: Novice, Advanced, Pro, and Kids. This week for our Novice division, high score goes to April, who bowled a personal best:

For the Advanced division, Charlotte led the pack with a killer game:

Don't get too excited, it will probably never happen again.

For the Pro division, Kate edged out Adrienne by one pin to take top honors this week:

My favorite part of this picture is the dismayed look on the face of Joe's mii.

Tom led the Kids division this week. Way to go, Tom!

Watch your email for an update which will contain the standings for your division! Upcoming blog posts will feature introductions of some new players as well as photos from a theme week. Ooooh.... can you feel the excitement building?
